Cutting flowers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACountryPlace : One Thread

This year I took up an entire bed with beautiful cutting flowers. They are mostly zinnias. They came out in so many beautiful colors and patterns that I am just overwhelmed. I originally put them in hoping I could sell some locally. However I have found very little time to find a market. They are absolutely one of the best things I have ever done on the farm.

My cutting garden brings me much joy. I am missing it this year as other things have side-tracked my usual effort and I got a late start to boot. I love being able to call on a sick friend with a bunch or to be able to provide flowers for church. My zinnias this year are still a ways from blooming and I sure am anxious for them to come.

I have a few zinnias this year after having none last year. I got a late start and the grasshoppers ate them down to the ground. This year they were late moving in and my zinnias were up several feet tall. I have had several good cuttings and sure enjoy sending a vase full to my dad in the nursing home. Especially nice when I cannot be there to say hello! I just got a camera not long ago and this is my first year getting to take pictures of the beautiful flowers. I don't think there'd be much market since they don't last very long but I am checking out new ideas for flower vases.
