A tiny place to reflect

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACountryPlace : One Thread

The links in the post below reminded me of how much I want to build a tiny cabin. I don't know maybe I have unfulfilled playhouse desires. To me there is something cool about having a little place to go write or draw or sleep(moms don't get much of this). I also would like to add a small chapel to my homestead someday. Does anybody else here have any crazy ideas like this?

Does anybody remember the buildings in the movie, Babe? They were so cool. Almost elven! When I think of a thatched roof I think of that movie.

I have dreams of hubby getting his office built. :) It will be in the sideyard, probably, and have an attached bathroom (so we can have a second, and also remodel the old bathroom in the house.) He'll go out there to do his study/computer work as well as business calls, and we won't need to be quiet in the house. lol. Also, all of his business books, tables, shelves, etc., etc., will go out there, giving me more room to put away other stuff! I guess my room is my sanctuary, where I go to rest and read.

I have the same dream LB! I have been forever wanting to build me just a small 1 room cabin behind the house, in the woods, at the top of the hill. Real simple and out of cedar which we have an abundance of. Some place to go and have just peace and quiet. Some day.......

I also have the dream, only mine is a little stone cottage just big enough for a hand-hewed wood table and chair and a small bed and dresser. Yes, maybe it is juvenile playhouse desire, but mine none- the-less. My husband wants a tree house.......so, with retirement coming soon, we are looking forward to our "playhouses"!!!

Oh, Diane, stone would be nice. With a thatched roof! I love those kind of roofs. Once saw a guy on tv thatching a roof. Such an art form.

Go to yahoo and type in "tiny house", then look at "Tumbleweed houses by Jay Shafer. He is a well known architect who designs national award winning tiny homes. He lives in an 8' x 17' foot house of his won design and construction. I am a ship Captain and have been passing some ideas on to Jay regarding tiny houses extracted from rather tight quarters from some of the boats that my wife and I have owned. I think a tiny house lurks in the back of all of our minds.
