How do you voice notes within one hand, especially when the note to be brought out is played simultaneously with others? I've tried slightly tilting my hand towards the finger that plays the note and striking harder, but I was wondering if anybody had any other ideas on how to achieve this. Also, what does it mean to voice thick texture?

You could practice playing the desired melody note first, nice and loud, then immediately play the other notes very gently. Then gradually reduce the time between the two until they are simultaneous. "Thick texture" means a whole lot of notes at the same time, like big chords. Some Brahms and Beethoven pieces are thick in texture. Voicing the thick texture means to bring out a melody, or something else interesting like an inner voice, within all those notes so that it doesn't sound thick and muddy.
