Does this do the Elevators good?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

The building I'm in has 3 high speed elevators. Everyday I send each elevator to the top floor and then the bottom. This seems to help them run smoother and in fact there hasn't been a break down for months now. Is there any reason for this in what I'm doing on a daily basis.

Does this do...

Curiosity has the better of me. What kind of elevators? Manufacturer? How many floors? Is the bottom the lobby or the basement?

Elevators like people need regular exercise. Without it, their health, just like ours deteriorates.

I'm not sure who makes these elevators but they are fast. The bottom floor is B one floor below main. This building is over 20 floors. There are 3 elevators. They have not broken down for months so I do believe the elevators appreciate this extra exercise they get each day. An older elevator tech (40 years on the job) once told me they need to be reset daily and you do this by sending the elevator to the top and then the bottom. Before this the elevators would drop down a couple of floors then go up to 7 etc. Seriously folks there has not been an elevator problem for months now.

your maintenance man

i would be thinking that the good performance of your lifts are due to the maintenance man. And you never no, they may be breaking down and you just dont notice it. cheers.

YOU HAVE TOOOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS. ELEVATORS DON'T KNOW YOUR SENDING THEM UP? MAYBE YOUR GETTING GOOD SERVICE DUE TO THE IUEC?

There are very old elvators /Schlieren or Schindler or Gebauer - swiss made) needs this kind of exercise for their selector (I don't know the english word? If they run only middle flors... they lost run after run the right positions, and alterate the stop precision at floors. I don't know if you have this kind of elevators...but I Have :) Ciao Ottavio

What also you could be doing is hiding a fault that has been there for some time, If the equipment gets a out of position fault, then you sending them up will reset the fault due to the mechanical switchs at the top and bottom of the shaft.... or good maintenance is getting done... mic

They could have also just been parking by dispatcher command before, as duplex elevators do.

every time i get in my lift it makes a horrible sound when it reachs the bottom floor but when i go up it does not make a sound

Maybe you have really soft roller guides that get flat spots over night causing the cars to ride rough on there first initial trips in the Am, I've seen it happen where the flat spots are so bad they can actually open a switch, by sending them to the top you actually work the spots out. Just a thought but I've seen it on Westinghouse 6" car rollers and not I'm not smoking anything.LOL
