MERC Closing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Middle School Science : One Thread

The Multi-Disciplinary Resource Centers (MERCs) in New York City are being shut down by the Klein administration. Formerly known as STAC (Science Technical Assistance Centers), the good people at MERC -including Ed Denecke, Cliff Fee, and Lou Goldstein for most of us in District 6 - have been extremely important to the professional growth of many science teachers, myself included. Given that district and regional level science staff have been eliminated, it is unconscionable that they are now cutting one of the last lifelines for science teachers in the city.

I urge anyone who has benefited directly or indirectly from the MERCS to send an e-mail to Joel Klein asking the administration to reconsider this decision - but do it now!
