Westinghouse ERL compounding

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

I have a problem with a Westinghouse ERL car that I canít get to run up and down at the same speed. I have replaced the whole electronic regulator with no change to the problem. I shifted the generator neutral with some better results but the car still comes in slow in leveling on the up but hot in the down. I donít have a tune up procedure write up. And I canít figure how to adjust the speeds to make them even. It runs at 425 fpm up and 485 fpm down. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check your generator armature resistance to ground. If less than 2M, time to try and blow clear. If not the generator check the motor for high resitance grounds. Grounds will wreck havoc on a ERL due to the way the regulator functions.

Also check the other fields. Regulator output grounding can also create havoc, too. Just as a side question, does it have a velocity feedback device (tach/encoder)? ;)

YES Steve, matter of fact, i replaced the tach with a brand new one. Still uneven speeds.

Frank try blowing out the generator with a GOOD blower first 75 % of the time this curse it if it just suddenly started unequal speeds. If you have to pull generator half way out and blow it. but make sure you cover the controlers up with plastic or make a bag from plastic and tape to floor over generator and had vac. in one end.

Be sure to pull yout brushes, blow out your rigging, then clean rigging with CRC small electric motor cleaner then blow out again. This has gotten me out of several jams.

Thanks all. The prob was the ground in the gen, blew it out and no more prob.

Are you any relation to Mitch?, He's a buddy of mine.
