How to use sight reading most effectively and accurately

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Everything About Teaching and Learning the Piano : One Thread

I am a beginner and have shown burning passion in piano. My memory is superb. As i can remember things very accurately and fast.. My main concern is that when i read moonlight sonata, i cannot use sight reading (which means the note)effectively. My teacher is telling me that I can now play that piece. But i can only remember the fingering and the movement. As for the fantasia imprompt by chopin, my problem of sight reading still arrived in my mind. I memorise all the music through ears, but often don't know if i have practice wrongly for the fast momentum in fantasia chopin.

Sounds like you need to go back to the basics and learn those note names. Sight reading through unfamiliar music is a good way of learning them.
