Hip replacement

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

Hello my name is Gerald Schlechter. I was recently in a car accident where i broke the neck of the femeur off. It has been 9 weeks and the bone has not healed at all. So either the bone dosent heal or the head of my femur loses its blood supply and i will need hip replacement surgery. I am also 18 years old. What effects will getting it replaced have on my life. I love to play basketball, football, and other sports of the type. I am also terrified of getting it done if i need to. Thanks for your time, Jerry Schlechter

Hi Gerald.

I'm curious as to what happened with your hip. I had a hip replacement in January, and I'm only 36. While 36 probably sounds old to you, it's still really young to have one. I used to be very active, so I was excited to get back to my old life... I was told no skiing, football, etc. Basically no contact sports, or where falling might be a problem. While I was disappointed to hear that, I am able to walk, bike, and swim again, so try and look at this as a good thing!

Good luck to you.
