I do know of a text I have at my clinic which deals predominantly with Pathology conditions from a Massage point of view but it is basically an Anatomy Text.....email me to remind me to get the name for you.

You should have, on hand, the "MerckManual"...a valuble text on Pathology and all manner of conditions. There is also "Medical Diagnostics" - Dugdale and Eisenberg....which advises massage for some conditions even though it is totally medically oriented.

I hope this helps.

Hello Tim

There are two books specifically for massage therapists:

1. Pathology A to Z - a Handbook for Massage Therapists by Kalyani Premkumar (VanPub Books in Canada)

2. A massage therapists guide to Pathology by Ruth Werner and Ben E. Benjamin (Williams & Wilkins in the US)

The second one discusses contraindications but it has obviously been passed through the eager eyes of their legal department because just about everything is contraindicated unless your client clears it with the medical profession first.

Most quality massage therapy text books now have comprehensive sections about cautions and contraindications.
