how to burn from avi or mpg to SVCD in Nero?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I dont manage to burn on Nero from an avi-file or mpg-file to SVCD. It always comes the error message "you have to purchase the Nero mpeg2 codec plugin" or "avi-file not supported format". What should I do? I have Nero v.5.5.9.9

Thanks!

SVCD requires MPEG-2 video with specific characteristics. http://www.vcdhelp.com has guides on converting AVI and other formats to SVCD. I don't recommend that you buy the Nero plugin. The quality on it is pretty bad. TMPGenc (http://www.tmpgenc.net) is a slightly more expensive, but superior choice. There are many different encoders you could use, but the only ones arguably any better than TMPGenc are CCE and Procoder, both of which cost about $600. I think you can get a license for TMPGenc for about $50. The Nero encoder is very cheap, maybe $12, but you get what you pay for.
