What is the basic theme of Annabel Lee?
-- Anonymous, May 06, 2003
A narrator explaining the story and his continued vigil by the tomb of Annabel Lee is affirming their bond of love despite her death. That affirmation reads a bit bitter, self-centered, crazed(many years sleeping by the tomb!) and chillingly sad tone despite his bitterness rebellion, and continued mourning. Like the Raven about which he said the bird represented a mournful and neverending remembrance. The relentless beat of the sea waves resoantes with that overall mood.
