Olympus C-2100 SDS and others can be repaired

Yes, its true. You can have your Olympus C-2100 and other Olympus digital cameras with similar problems repaired. Olympus will charge $300.00 + for the repair. They will tell you that they have to replace the power supply board in the camera. Well, I purchased a Dead C-2100 camera and have successfully repaired it myself. I now know exactly what fails in these cameras. Guess what? You don't need to actually replace the power supply board in you camera. All that is needed is to replace 1 or 2 very small surfacemount devices on that board. It took me about one hour to tear down the camera and probably another 2 hours to put it back together. Repairing the failed parts or components took about 15 minutes. So, the big deal here is the amount of time taking the camera apart and putting it back together again. There was I estimate over 100 small screws that held it all together. Now if anyone has one of theses Dead(SDS) C-2100 cameras I can repair it for you for half the price that Olympus charges. I'm not a camera repair shop or have any relation to olympus in anyway. I'm an experienced electronics technician in repairing equipment. I do it as a side business for some extra income on my own time. Now for the juicy part. These parts that are failing in these cameras for example the C-2100 are being used in Olympus's newer cameras also. Why put parts in their cameras that make the cameras fail (go dead or SDS) I ask? Well, in my own opinion, they want their cameras to fail later on. Now this is just my opinion from my observation on repairing several olympus digital cameras. Don't get me wrong here as their cameras are truely great cameras, especially the C-2100. But to put components in your camera with the knowledge it will probably fail in the future is alitte awkward I think. The devices are behaving like fuses. They will open up when there is too much current passing through them. Yes, it could be just a design error. I seen such. But, I see newer model cameras using the same components in the same manner. Why? Well, anyway, if you really feel you would like you C-2100 camera repaired that has the (SDS) problem I can do it at half the cost olympus charges. Now just to note. There is always the chance that something else may have failed in your camera and not the components I've been speaking of. In that case I may not be able to repair it. I called Olympus about their power supply boards in their C-2100 cameras. I askedif it was possible to buy one from them. They said Yes. How much? Over $400.00 they wanted to charge me. I said forget it. Charge me $400.00 for two tiny parts that maybe cost them about 2 cents. That right. The parts that fail are very tiny and more then likely only cost them acouple of pennies if not less.

Thanks for reading this.
