Sako 75 with Zeiss or Springfield Armory????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

I have a Sako 75 Varmint Laminated Stainless chambered in 22-250 and I just had the barrel replaced with one from "Douglas" it's a 26 inch stainless, air gauged, premium match grade barrel, and I can't decide what optic's to put on it. I have narrowed it down to 2 choices, (1.)Springfield Armory's 6-20x56 (2.)Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50. Anybody have any advice.

I love hunting in the night. I have a CZ 6.5x55, a CZ 308w, a brno 30.06, a brno 243W, a Hekler and Kock 30.05, a mauser 8x57, a mauser 7.65x 53, a Steyr Jagdmatch 222 rem, a Remington 700 police . On my rifles I have used a Zeiss 8x56,a Zeiss 6x42, a russian scope, a leupold variable varixIII, a Nikon scope and I have used a s.armoury scope too. . The Nikon gold variable, that I bought by Jan of the opticzone.com with 30 mm diameter tube is the best one.

Well, try IOR, I've only heard good things about them. Both scopes you mentioned aren't very good in terms of glass quality. I can't stand looking thru bad glass, and yes that even includes Nightforce and lots of American Glass except US optics. But if those are the only choices, I'll go with Zeiss.

I would stay away from the Springfield scoped. I have had Gen 1 4X14 and traded it for a Gen3 4X14. I have several Leupolds, a B&L 4200 and a Weaver Grandslam scope and the Springfield does NOT compare with these others. Eye relief is much more critical and it (along with the Gen 1 is just optically not was clear as the others. It is also a MONSTER in size (which doesn't seem to help it). I intend to trade it in to SWFA for another one of the above scopes. Buy a Leupold Tactical and you will be MUCH HAPPIER.

My experience with the Springfield scopes is very limited - what I have seen I have not been impressed with. They are along the line of the Super Sniper scope (read Tasco). Hakko builds many scopes - they are a spec shop, they build to specs - nothing more. If you need more than this - go to www.snipersparadise.com and search the forums for Springfield - you'll find your answer. Don't buy one.

If I had my druthers I would opt for the Zeiss, BUT, (Here comes the caveat), did you know that the Springfield scopes are built by Hakko in Japan? Did you know that Hakko builds Nightforce Scopes?? The Springfield scope is good, I own a 4X14X56 and it has done just fine. I did have to send it back once as the ocular came loose internally, they sent me a new scope. The only experience I have with Zeiss is with my checkbook, and that sucks! The Sprinfield comes with a 30mm tube whereas the American Zeiss' only come in a 1" tube. Spend you money wisely and put the Springy on your rifle. That little 22-250 won't even begin to bother that scope. They are heavy, but any big optic scope isn't going to be light. I had the Springfield on my Sako TRG-42 in .338 Lapua Mag and it was accurate and repeatable. Those are my thoughts, hope this helped.

Milbook all you gave me is your oppinion, that isn't going to help me. Don't tell me not to buy a Springfield and not write anything to back it up. As for the Zeiss, it's more of a big game hunting scope, that is why it scores so high in the "light retention" catergory, as for the Sringfield, it's made for sniping not for big game hunting. Anyways I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Do not buy a Springfield. The Zeiss American built Conquest is an excellent scope for the price, but bear in mind that you get what you pay for. Go to www.swfa.com and look at all of the options. You can cuss your rig when you buy it, or you can cuss it when you use it.
