Am I Insane

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

I am eighteen an I intend to go mountaineering in the French alps for a few months to bridge the gap between college and university, the problem is I will be travelling alone. I have got lots of experience walking in this country alone and some experience as part of a group on the trails of Chamonix is there any advice someone can offer me. all points of view will be considered.

Al,

Two answers to this problem;-

1) The guides office in Chamonix keep a message book which acts like a primitive newsgroup - you will often find lone climbers looking for a partner.

2) The Les Chosolets Camp site in Argentierre is the basecamp of choice for most english speaking climbers - there is also a notice board there where you can leave messages.

Either way strongly recommend a days cragging with any prospective partner before embarking on any of the big stuff - your life in their hands etc...

Best,

Sean
