I have 2 chain saw engines that are 54cc each. I was wondering if it would be possible to make a go kart out of them. Thanx.

Answers

There is almost no way that two 54 cc engines will give you enough power to go. But if you were still going to try, a great idea would be to have each engine powering one of the back two wheels, that way by increasing the speed of one engine, your kart would turn, that way you would solve propultion and steering in one step, and also have close to a 0 turning radius.

The two driven rear wheel idea should work great, 50cc should make it go quite well,a moped is 50cc and will do 35mph.two engines won't make it go faster but it will give you more low end power.

You could easily do this. I have a gas scooter that weighs about 50lbs and has a 42cc engine at 2.75 hp and it can pull me up steep hills at around 32 mph.

Yes 54cc will dot the job u want! although u have w chainsaw engines it will not make any differance in top end speed but u will have much faster low end/ acceleration. I am working on my 8th scooter and i have a 38cc and it pulls me at a great speed around 40kph aprox 25mph it even does a slight burn out because i have the carb adjusted to the peek of its speed! dont try inless expert of u have a carb adjust nob! hope all works out!

here let me make it as simple as i can.rught above the pedals (on the low cross bar) screw a 9in. x 9in. piece of ply wood into the the cross bar.then secure the chainsaw to it.then use the bike chain on the chainsaw.you're done. Hello... I made a chainsaw mountain bike (that you may have seen on daily planet, discovery channel). it has 12 gears, and does a smooth 70 km/h..... only 42cc.... the key is in the gear calculations.

i plan on producing a kit that will bolt on to a regular frame mountain bike.

mine is welded, and looks more like a chopper, because of all the extra metal work. It was mainly a test to see if the small motor would work, and its more than ample.

Im currently building a kart using a long circuit race chassis (that Ive bought) and a 750cc motorcycle engine. Should have around 120 bhp and it will be good for 150mph. 0-60mph will take 3 seconds. Ive seen these things built before and they really go some! The biggest engines they race with are 250cc.

i have a 50cc scooter and it goes about 90km/h. A single chainsaw engine is about 20 odd cc. If you have to this will provide ample speed, and seeing as your closer to the ground it will feel faster. My friend is making one with 1 chainsaw engine.

if live axle will work fine you cant put on two engines because they both spin the same way you can do it on a live axle go kart but not on a single drive if you put an engine to each back tire one will go forwards and one will go backwards so you wont move any where but if it is a live axle it will work fine

I built a custom minibike out of a 60cc Mac chainsaw and bmx bicycle frame, in first gear it would go 45+ (mph). We never bothered with 2nd or 3rd considering I hadn't gotten to the brake issue, ok, it didn't have any, a real issue!LOL. I have pictures and will email them to anyone who would like an idea how to mount the motor. If you have a good strong 54cc motor, you can easily get 45+ too! I kid you not! We clocked it up against our minivan and our test dumby, my brother, was still accelerating. This motor only had about 3hp, so expect a lot out of your 54cc motors and try and stay with just one of them, you will be surprised at what it will do for you, helps keep weight down, and less money trying to connect just one motor up. I have one of those granny-kart kinda thingy's, (you know, the three wheeled carts old people use to get around?) its been an on-going project, but its been lightened, and everything that wasnt needed was taken off, so right now its the bare-metal frame and the tires. The seat was taken off the high post, and mounted directly to the frame to lower the CG. theres only one dillema i have, and thats the engine i should use. i have a 33cc chainsaw motor, and a 50cc motor from a mo-ped. i think its better to use the chainsaw, because if i use the mo-ped engine, ill need to raise the seat, where as the chainsaw will fit comfortably behind the seat...any help would be appreciated (sorry about the long post :P )

a chain saw motor would be to much power for a bike it would strip the gears and sprockets and break the chain. You need beefer sprockets for that.

you can use a bike sprocket and chain for a go kart, nevermind a powered bike. When my dad was younger he had a go kart set up with direct drive (no clutch, sprocket attached straight to the crankshaft) with a bike chain and sprockets, they are much stronger that you know.

if you make a go cart with two engines attached to one solid axel with wheels attached to both ends, and the engines are the same type you should have no problem getting them to work together because if one has a little more power than the other the common axel will keep the wheels spinnig the same speed it will NOT cause problems.

Im with Troy, you guys gotta think creatively. I built a go kart and has a John Deere 440cc snowmobile engine on it and its fuckin nuts. It can whoop the shit out of anything on wheels. Its geared 4:1, 17 tooth top sprocket and 72 on the axle. This fucker does about 120mph top end and about 100 in the 1/4. Oh and also if anyone was wondering it has so much torque it can pull shittys on pavement. If anyone would like to see a movie of it my friend filmed it on my video camera for proof just email me and Ill send you the clip. Im sure you could make your go kart but would not be very fun or fast it might have a little torque but not enough to have fun with. It would be a very intersting project and take some time. My thoughts are to look on Ebay and look for a 125cc dirt bike engine or something and go from there cuz then you got your whole engine set up and all you gotta do is make the frame and shit. But whatever floats your boat. If I were doing this chainsaw go kart I would pria run different clutches off the engine instead than the ones that are already on the engine and then run chains to jackshafts on both sides and run each rear wheel independantly and gear it down. Or buy 2 Comet Torque Converters for each side if you want low end and some top end it all depends on what you wanna spend.$$$ ANYTHING is possible all you gotta do is work at it and get your mind thinking. I got a 54cc mountain bike cookin, and the best thing is that its a bike and i can ride it round the streets legaly. Although i gotta tell the cops its a 47cc cause anything over 49cc and you need a licence. It has a little trouble taking off (Between 900 and 2000rpm) but once you pick up a bit you can pull 70kph (44mph) with a little skill (not much)and thats what 1 motor does for me. You gotta watch the heat factor, a chainsaw cutting wood has to work far less than it does when carting a dude. Dont let these guys make you feel this is a tough task cause its not at all. PS. I have no pics at the mo besides i'm milkin this one... I'm makin some kits to sell soon, just have to make my sister one and then i'm on it. (Australia)

I just finished my second kart and its just as nuts as the first one. Except this one is a shifter cart but off road type. Its got a 305cc 2 stroke dirt bike engine in it with 18x9.50-8 knobby rear tires and 145x70-6 front knobbys with full SUSPENSION. I put 2 a- arms in the front and a rear swing arm in back.
