How would I get a 3 wheeled bike to run off of a chain saw? All I have is a bike, example: http://www.ajobikes.com/3_wheelers/miamisun/miamisun1.gif and a chain saw. What else do I need? And how would I do this?

The easyest thing would be to bolt a small grinding wheel where the chain went on the saw ,and have it rub directly on the tire. a lot of aftermarket bike motors use this system. Solex still uses somthing like that.

you all are stupid becuz you would have to have radical gearing for the bike to move with a chain drive and you couldnt use the stock clutch

i used to have a motorized bike that was driven straight onto the tire and it had quite a bit of power but i have a scooter with a whiipy engine now and it goes alot harder and i can change the ratios

Yea mate has a 16 inch bike with a whippy sniper moto on it mounted on wit a stunt ped of the whippersnipper shaft and it rubs on the wheel

dude since i have lost my lincence for d.u.i i had a transport problem but now fixed due to a old haro master frame and a three horse b@s motor and a couple of clutches im able to get 70kph on the strait out of a old bmx motor is on a modifid pack rack with a simple 2 stage touqe converter and power is put to the back wheel via a simple scrub drive made from a boat trailer roller guide cost is not much and i can still light up the back tyre leavin the pub if you want info e-mail me

Let's think about this. An average bicyclist might pedal the crank around 80 RPMs which produces say 20 MPH using a 48 tooth crank sprocket and 13 tooth sprocket on the rear hub using 27" wheels. For comparison, let's say a 2-cycle engine spins at 3600 RPM. Using this same gear setup, we would need to gear down the motor 45:1. If we go ahead and change the crank sprocket (mounted on the engine shaft) from 48 teeth down to 12 teeth, we only need to gear the motor down to 11.25 to 1. Now rather than using a 13 tooth rear hub sprocket we use a 28 tooth rear sprocket. This means we only need to gear down the motor 5.25:1. Using a smaller diameter rear tire would bring this ratio down even further. It just so happens that Staton-Inc. makes a 5.33:1 gearbox specifically for this purpose and is designed to bolt directly to a variety of small engines including Honda GX31, Robin EH035 & Mitsubishi 40.6 cc. I have an old 33ccm chainsaw motor that i am trying to put on a dyno, its got a cut down frame, I am mounting it above the wheel in the back and running a chain rite off the chainsaw to the wheel sprocket, i was wondering if this will, work and also any suggestions on where to find a bike chain sprocket and clutch assembly that will go on the drive shaft where the old on was, ohh and will i need to gear it down, email me with any suggestions please

i have a gas motor scooter that has a 43 cc engine on it right now. the engine that is on it right now is really slow and doesnt give me the power that i want, so my dad gave me his 2.3 Cubic inch chainsaw motor. i already figured out how to mount it onto the go ped, but i was wondering if i take off the stock clutch that comes with the chainsaw that is used to spin the chainsaw chain, and take that off and weld on the actuall sprocket that drives the tire sprocket, would it work? or do i need to have a certian type of assembly for it to work? please please eamil me if you have an answer. thanks

this is for everyone. none of u should use a weed wacker motor, no matter how u set it up, it is crap. u can barely move, and if u come to even the smallest hill, forget about it. i recommend using a chainsaw motor, or maybe even a lawn mower motor if u have acces to it.

Why do people ask for plans? It doesn't make any sense. You just have to figure it out..I mean, if you are using stuff you already have, just make it work. Get sprockets, make them line up, try different gearing, build motor mounts so they hold your motor in the right place, and make a throttle system. It's not brain surgery...trying to follow plans will be much harder than just using what you already have. I built a go cart, with a-arm suspension in the front, a solid rear axle with a sprocket and brake disc in the middle, using a B&S 5hp. The thing wouldn't even climb the driveway. So I got a YZ125 motor, and dropped it in...changed what I needed to change...it's seriously not that hard. Just go one step at a time, and figure out each step as you go, and slightly look ahead. Here are your plans, no matter what you are making:

-First you need to make a rolling chasis. A bike would already be considered a rolling chasis. -Then figure out where the motor will go, so that the chain/belt lines up. -Mount the motor. -Invent your own throttle linkage.

Test it, and ride it. Plans Shmlans.

u need a 12" tire, (u only need one tire to power. Change the sproket on the chainsaw to a 22-32 toothed sproket. then u will need to find a chain that will fit. u can mess around with the gear ratios to get more or less power. i suggest u start moving befor u gun it because the clutches are prety weak
