How to keep Widescreen ratio?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am trying to take a WMA file with widescreen video and put it to DVD or VCD. When I import into the programs that will actually import it, it changes the ratio and pushes the size together to fit the entire picture into the screen. How can I keep the widescreen ratio? Thanks!

If you use something like TMPGenc (http://www.tmpgenc.net) to encode, you may be able to preserve the ascpect ratio. The site http://www.geocities.com/aussie01au/index.html has some info on widescreen SVCD. You'll have to look around a bit to find it, but some of what it says may be of help to you. I read that some programs don't set the video stream information correctly for 16:9 and always say 4:3. In these cases, the commercial version of the Teco Bit Rate Viewer (http://www.tecoltd.com) may be useful as you can use it to set various flags in a demuxed video stream. This is not an area I have a lot of experience in, but maybe some of these pointers will be helpful.
