Announcing new windows

Don't you think that announcing that links will be opened in new windows is a job for the browser, and not author..?

If a user set their screenreader to say "new window" before every link for instance, and then in your page you'd written " (opens in a new window)" they'd hear "new window. link. opens in a new window".

Sounds like a good idea to me Tom - a new feature that the browser manufacturers may be interested in?

All the best, Jim

This is fine for those using screen readers - but if you are using IE and not familiar with it, then users can get very lost if a new window opens - especially if the new screen covers the whole of the original - then the back button is effectively disabled - so confusing

Therefore I think that designers need to alert users.
