How to tell if they are pregnate

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

I have a question I cant tell if my female goat is pregnate she is fat though. I am not sure if it is her fur because she has really thick fur. She has no udders yet but shes been like this all winter. I am hoping its just winter fur. How old can baby males be able to mate? My female still has alot of energy! Also how much do you feed goats I could be feeding her to much?

Pregnant does often still have a lot of energy, depending on the number of kids and time of gestation. Can you feel her ribs? If not, she's fat. Do her thighs jiggle when she walks? If so, she's fat. Or is it just that she has a huge belly? Good dairy goats have large barrels and chest capacity, and so do pregnant ones. A good dairy goat looks like she's pregnant all the time. Male goats can mate as early as two months, if they can reach the doe, and if the doe is in heat. Most goats are not in heat this time of year. Feeding- well, what are you feeding her? She should have good hay, free choice, and not too much grain if she's not pregnant. If she is, a pound or two of grain.
