Do we need love to survive

Do we need love and nuturing to survive the modern world? Will someone fit into society if they do not recieve love as a child? Is it humanly possible to not love your own child?

You might also look at John Bowlby's work on attachment theory. A great deal has been written in recent years about attachment dynamics in adults as well as children.
