removing a rod and pins from a bone

I broke my shin bone 1 1/2 years ago. There is a rod from my knee to my ankle with a pin slightly below my knee and one in my ankle. I am an athletic person and still have discomfort when i try to jog. The pins bother me, both with changes in weather and when they get bumped. When I jog, the part of the rod extending into my knee is uncomfortable to the point that i have to stop.

Is this normal after the time that has elapsed? The doctor says everything has healed normally. What are the pros and cons about getting them removed? Tamara

Have the rod removed. You will feel much better.
