Dear All,

I hope this will not come to fruition. Or, at least, maybe it'll spark some Aeon dvd action and extra features... I thought they abandoned this idea ages ago.

Here's the news from:

" Kusama in live-action 'Flux' for Par March 18, 2003

"Girlfight" helmer Karyn Kusama is in final negotiations to direct Paramount Pictures/MTV Films' "Aeon Flux," a live-action feature based on the 1995 animated MTV Networks series of the same name that Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla also is producing. Written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay ("crazy/beautiful"), the project is described as a stylish, fast-paced, female-driven action thriller set in a future where a top agent at an underground organization takes on a secret mission. Peter Cheung created the original series, whose feature film version will be produced by Hurd and MTV's David Gale. Valhalla executive Barbara Boyle and MTV exec Michael Cole are overseeing. Kusama is repped by WMA. (Zorianna Kit) "

I wonder if Peter is in Korea right now working on a project. It seems to me he had something he was working on before he got onto Matriculated.

This is good, athough I'm inclined not to believe.

I could have sworn I saw this before... a few posts down.

I just hope this gets the MTV episodes out on DVD.

I don't know about the Aeon movie, but in this month's issue of Animerica there is a very lengthy interview with Peter Chung where he talks about a feature length animated movie he is directing. Actually he doesn't really talk about it, he just says it exists, the interview is mainly about his work on Rein. But hey, that's better than nothing. He also talks about his frustrations working with MTV on Aeon Flux and mentions some hilarious discrepancies with their cencorship policies. And on a side note, Chung seems to be the animation man of the hour. This is the third interview of his I've read this month, the other two being in XBN magazine and Anime International respectively. Hopefully this is a harbinger of good things to come from him down the road and not just the immdediate after effects of Reign and Animatrix.

With my last communication with Peter, about 2 days ago, he is in Korea working on a project. I don't have any other info on what he is working on. There are several websites posting the information about a live action movie. Personally I'm for it, but I'd prefer to see a cel type animation or even a computer animation version. There is only one voice I want to hear as Aeon's.

I would only want Peter Chung to be overseeing any kind of production because with the kind of action movies many directors are making nowadays, they would screw it up beyond all recognition. I am not a Peter Chung psychophant, but many they would not have the artistic intellect he has. The animated series was brilliant and to be honest, not a typically American style action animation.

If someone else began creating it they would probably mis-interpret the movie completely and it would probably end up like a futuristic version of those shitty Charlie's Angels movies probably with Jennifer Anniston playing Aeon Flux and Jim Carrey playing Trevor Goodchild.

Sure you are pretty right (interesting choice of cast you made there). Anyway, this is a rather old topic and has been widely discussed in the past months (with sometimes really disturbing cast suggestions). The movie seems to have been abandoned or at least suspended. Still those threads are fun to read.

Mmm yeah, his independant project, or something, right? The thing he's been mentioning for a while now. I'm definately anticipating that one with great interest.
