VCD not in colour

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I made my own VCD which plays perfectly on my PC. However, when trying to play it through my DVD player and TV it is only in black and white.

Sounds like you're trying to play a PAL video on an NTSC television.

Colour with ou is British English, so it might also be the other way around. Maybe you are trying to play an American NTSC clip on a European PAL television set. (I have the same problem here.)

For PAL VCD's you need frames of 352x288 pixels and a framerate of 25 fps. NTSC uses 320x240 pixels and 29.97 fps (for colOr images).

If all seems to be correct, you might want to try other VCD burning software. Some DVD players seem to have problems with MPEG videos that don't fully comply with the official VCD standard, and unfortunately some software packages seem to create VCD's that are not 100% compatible with those specifications.

Correction: 320 x 240 for NTSC should be 352 x 240.
