What is the story line in the Tell Tale Heart?
-- Anonymous, March 07, 2003
Is there a problem? According to the narrator(we have to interpret it back to reality) the old man becomes the source of the madman's terror. He fixates on the glass eye and works himself up(through terror and rage) to murder. The heightened senses, sound and the madness operate his undoing when the police arrive. He again fixates his own madness on the dead man and mistakes his own heartbeart for his victim's, growing so excited he rips up the covering floor. So first it is the sight of the eye, then the murder accomplished in silence except for the murderer's heartbeat. Said heartbeart now becomes the linkage back to the old man and wrongly- again- to that man's heart.
