Capturing with Adaptec VideOh

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to capture from VCR to burn to VCD or preferably SVCD. I'm using an Adaptec VideOh PCI card in a PC with 1.3GHz processor, 392MB RAM and a Yamaha CRW2200 CD burner. I'm using a Marantz DV4100 to test the VCDs on. Problem is, so far only MyDVD (supplied with the card) will recognise the card, so I have to use that to capture. The captured files are in mpg format. VCDs done in MyDVD are appauling quality (far worse than VHS and picture and sound about 1/2 second out). So instead I've used Ulead Video Studio and NeroVision express, both error when trying to import or transcode these files. Is MyDVD really bad at saving these files or am I doing something wrong whilst capturing? Can anyone recommend alternative software that might give me better results?

Thanks

i have used windows movie maker 2 in windows xp to capture my vhs video ( if you have widows xp os. you could try this and then encode with aprogram called tmpgenc you could download a version off downloads .com from cnet. if you have xp goto your windows updates and download movie maker 2 you could do an awsome video editing on your video you could put ending credits in and all the only thing is this is in xvcd or vcd . I have found the best results are to get one hour of video on one disc feel free to email me with any questions.

Hi,

You can use Snazzi* movie mill to capture videos using Adaptec VideOh, it works with any windows operating syste. I am using W2K, it works fine.

All the best.

I too have had these problems... having the VideOh USB. I have just downloaded the trial version of Nero, and it looks like the problems with the bad output video are vanishing. I am trying to capture TV and make .avi files to send my daughter who has no tv at her college. The output files up to this time have been just abysmal! I have also downloaded the newest Divx and Xvid codecs, and using the Xvid for the compression (choose "custom"output when exporting, then configure as you will) is making very nice files for 45 minutes at a little over 300Mb.

Hope this helps...

I read somewhere that you must have at least 512kbyte of memory for this...I have more but it still locks up when using MyDVD....makes me want to go out and buy a Mac
