key psychologists of memory and the experiments they did

greenspun.com : LUSENET : History & Theory of Psychology : One Thread

I have chosen to do a memory experiment for my AS Psychology coursework where I will show a list of related words to two different groups. They will have one minute in which to memorise them and then I will ask the members of one group to write the list down on a blanc sheet of paper and the other group will have to write the list down on a sheet with different headings in the hope that this will trigger their memory. The only thing is is that we don't have many psychology books at school and so far I have been unable to find much information on psychologists who researched memory and the experiments they did. I would be grateful if you could help me by at least giving the names of key psychologists who conducted experiments like this or similar to this.

Thanks again, Amanda.

There are many psychologists that have conducted memory experiments using words lists or similar devices. From an historical point of view, Hermann Ebbinghaus with its wide known "Memory: A contribution to experimental psychology" could be the famoust one. You can read the article here: http://psychclassics.asu.edu/Ebbinghaus/index.htm. You could also be interested in looking for contemporary animal research concerning memory, amnesia an related topics. In my oppinion the work of Dr. Norman Spear (Binghamnton University) is pretty much interesting.
