Art as a Regeneration Tool

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Public Art : One Thread

I am a Director of Aston Housing Consultancy. We have recently been awarded an Innovation and Good Practice Grant by the Housing Corporation to write a best practice handbook for Housing Associations, the theme being the use of art as a regeneration tool.

Part of the project will be to find a number of arts projects across England and Wales where tenants have worked succesfully across a number of art mediums with artists. The involvement of tenants could be ranged from fundraising to participation.

The purpose will be to choose a number of the projects and publicise them in the book as examples of best practice. We will be considering the process from initiation to completion of project, including looking at where funding has been raised, ie SRB, Lottery, Arts Boards Etc. and talking to residents about beneficial outcomes of the projects.

We will be looking at a number of urban and rural projects and so far have been succesful in finding good projects in the north, but not so succesful in the midlands, south and wales.

If you give me any suggestions about suitable projects in these regions, I would be grateful.

If you have any other queries about the project, please do not hesitate to contact me.

My name is Graeme Beedham 50 Keslake Road London, NW6 6DG
