Good day all. The Grady Knights Varsity baseball team fell down against the Knights of Pace Academy yesterday with the first shut out of the season a final score 9-0. With 4 loses for the season and 3 being region loses the playoff looks shady. Hopefully, some how some way they can pull a bunch of rabbits out of their hats and find a study line of region win to give them a seed in the playoffs. Come out and show your support for the guys bring posters to give them a feel of confident and cheer them on. Todays game is a make up game and is against Blessed Trinity at (old marshall field). Next game will be Wednesday April 23, 2003 against Union Grove. See you there!!

This weekend turned out to be cold. On Friday the Grey Knights were at Decatur (Mc Koy park) to host the Bulldogs. The game started off extremely well with the grey Knights taking the lead in the first inning with a crushing 2-run homer by Junior Anthony London with his first plate appearence. The game the team a good burst of energy. The bulldogs then came up in the bottom of the inning and scored as well. On into the game the Knights and the bulldogs went back and forth with the score gaining and loosing points to tie. In the fifth inning the Knights came up big by putting on base runner and scoring runs. The bulldogs didn't give up. Going into the top of the seventh and final inning, Jacob Burkhardt with a patient at bat draws a walk. The bulldogs were threating by next batter coming up with the tieing run on and the go ahead at coming to the plate Junior Anthony London (the score 5-4 their lead) who was 3 for 2 with a 2- run homer in the first, pop up in the third and a rocket shot single in the fifth. With the game on the line for the bulldogs of Decatur intentionally walk him putting the go ahead run on the bases in hope of maybe a double play ball from the next batter. The next man up was senior Michael Walker who layed down the bunt of a game time and loaded the bases with no outs. The next batter was Junior Bobby Mc Clain who got a great hit to score Jacob Burkhardt to tie the game and move the other in scoring position. That lead to Alex coming to the plate after the Bulldogs had to go to another pitcher to try to freeze the Knight scoring. With no effect Alex got a great hit to left field which scored Anthony London who had been intentionally walk in the beginning which gave the Knights the lead of 6-5. The bottom of the seventh inning was put to a halt by Stewart Collins who pitched a tremendous game. Way to go Stew.

On Saturday the Knight visited the Panthers of Therrell HS for the third time this season. The game was no match for pitcher Sean Corley and the Grey Knights of Grady HS. Finishing the game with 10 K's and walking only 2 batters in 6 inning. The knights felt the Sean was done and that the game was in the bag by bring in the Sophomore Walker Burkhardt to close the game. The final score was 13-8. The next game is scheduled for today at Carver HS followed by Tuesday at home (old Thurgood Marshall) against Douglas, then we hit the road to Holy Innocent and back home to finish the week with Crim HS on Thursday. Until the next time have a Safe week.

Hope everyone enjoyed the great weekend. The Grady Knight played host to the Therrell Panthers on Friday with the final score of 4-3 Grady. On Saturday they were the guest to the Pace Knight. After finally getting pick up for APS transportation one (1) hour late the fell short with a final score of 5-2 (Pace)which gave the knights the second season lost and the first region lost. The Grey Knights are 5- 2 overall with a region record of 3-1 ( this is questionable). Parents if you are interested in helping please voice your opinion about transportation to Mr. Alvin Baker at APS (404) 753-9815. Mr Baker is in charge of transportation. Please give him a call about the lateness of transportaiton. On Saturday transportation shouldn't have been late their was no public school, so what was the problem. Please voice your opinion. Mr. Alvin Baker email is agbaker@atlanta.k12.ga.us.

Thank you in Advance Angela Denson

On Monday March 24, 2003 the Grey Knight were guest to Union Grove Wolverines. The knights were late again for a 4:30pm game getting there at 5:15pm and still having to warm up. The game got off to a good started with the knights scoring first. The wolverines came back and scored three (3) runs in the bottom of the first inning with errors by the Knights. The knights then came back and took the lead in the top of the second innings with three (3) more runs. Well the error continued. With Junior Anthony London on the mound he had a season high ten (10) strike outs in five (5) innings and giving up a few to many walks due to a few bad calls by the umpires, following up by Sophomore Walker Burkhardt to finish the game with a couple of strike outs and a few to many walks the Knights lost to the Wolverines by a final score of 4-13. The team has to learn to not beat themselves in these game and focus. With the fact that there is not very many fields that we visits with lights the game are only about 50 minutes to an hour in length. So when they go to play the few teams with lights they get tired and loose focus of the game and the errors begin to rack up. Again, baseball parents we need to lift our voices and speak out. The contact about this is Valerie Thomas up is in charge of Baseball facilities. Lets email her about our field issues, lights amoung everything at vdthomas@atlanta.k12.ga.us let her here from you. Our next game is scheduled at home against Blessed Trinity on Wednesday March 26, 2003 at 4:30pm. This is a good team and we need the support of the students and parents who have nothing to do that evening. The game is schedule for 4:30pm but as I have stated the transportatin is terrible so we are looking at possible a 5:00pm or a little later start. Come out and give your support.

Thank again in Advance

Hello, Hope you all had a great weekend. The Grey Knights Baseball team did, they finish in the Atlanta Inter-city Tournament with third (3) place over Therrell. With a final score of 11-3 with great hitting by the knights they held the lead after the second inning with Stewart Collins on the mound and Walker Burkhardt closing the game they continued to add to their lead. The game was played in full (seven innings) and the weather was not good (cold and wet) but we came out on top. For the past two years the knights had finish 2nd and the years before that always finishing 1st, this year was an unfortunately drop. With the N'Atl game on last Monday running out daylight due to the fact that they got to the field almost 30 minutes late (waiting on school transportation)and no time to warm up or get prep for the game, the lost gave the knight a two way tie with one lost each with Therrell HS to play for 3rd and 4th position and left N'Atl with a two-way tie with Mays for 1st and 2nd. Congradulation to the 2003 Grady Varsity Baseball team for a GOOD JOB. We will begin Region play on Wednesday against Pace @ 4:30pm. The rest of game this season will determine the play off seeding. Come out to support our team. The next home game will be Friday against Therrell @ 4:30pm.

Until next time.

Have a safe week.

Good Day All On Monday the Grey Knight Varsity Baseball team played N'Atlanta. After allowing N'Atlanta to score 5 runs in the top of the first inning we fell short with daylight fading the game was call after 3 innings. The Knight had a slow start and when they finally starting to get into the grove the game was over. The knights started to come back but the time ran out the game ended without completing the bottom of the third inning with a final score of 9-5 Grady took its first lost of the season. The game in a non-region game and will probably not be replayed.

The Knights came back on Tuesday and played Crim in a make up game due to the weather last week with the same slow start. I think the guys get BUS LAG having to rush to play after getting to the field late waiting on a ride from APS they never get a chance to warm up completely. Crim scored in the first two innings getting a 4-0 lead on the Knights with Anthony London on the mound. The knight finally got warm up and started to play. With excellent hitting by Jacob Burkhardt, Bobby Mc Clain, Michael Walker and others and excellent pitching by Anthony London with 9 (nine) strikeouts and a 2 or 3 walks (BB) they scored (2)two runs in the bottom of second and (3)three more runs in the bottom of the third inning. The eagles were shut out after the second inning. The game was called again with daylight fading the final score was 5-4 Knights. This adds to our winning column. The next schedule game is Wednesday March 19, 2003 at 4:30 @ Pace and the next schedule home game is Friday March 21, 2003 against Therrell at 4:30pm. Come out and Support our guys. Have a great week.

Good Day All more baseball news. On Moday the Grey Knight Varsity Baseball played N'Atlanta at our home field. Getting off to a rocky start and allowing N'Atlanta to score in the first inning it put a real strain on the Knights. After finally getting in the grove of the game having to play the tenth man on the field ( home plate umpire) the knight fell short with time running out due to daylight, and not getting to finish the last inning at bat the Knights finish and unfinish game with a final score of 9-5 (non-region).

The Knights came back the next day to play Crim in a make up game due to weather on last week with almost the same problem. The game started off slow (I think the boys have BUS LAG from having to rush when they finally reaching the field (late)they never get to warm up totally). The game started off slow. The Crim Eagles put up 4 unanswered run in the first two innings with Anthony London on the mound. After getting into the grove once again the Knights came back and scored 2 run in the bottom of the second inning and another 3 runs in the bottom of the third inning with great hitting by Jacob Burkhardt, Bobby Mc Clain, and Michael Walker. Shutting out the eagles after the second inning Anthony London had a total of 9 strikeouts and walk only 3. The game was called after daylight starting fading with only 3 1/2 innings of play the final score of 5- 4 Grady. The next schedule game is Wednesday March 19, 2003 at 4:30pm @ Pace. The next schedule home game is Friday March 21, 2003 against Therrell. Come out and support your team. Have a great week.

The Grady Knight Varsity Baseball team played on Saturday against the Bulldogs of Washington High School. After 10 innings of play and the score going backwards and forward the knights starting hitting the ball well. Finally with a solo homerun by Anthony London followed by a two-run homer by Jacob Burkhardt and other strong hitting by other players the knights added another win under their belts with a final score of 14-11. Come out and support knights baseball today at 4:30 against N. Atlanta @ Home (Old Thurgood Marshall Middle on Mary Dell Lane) and a rain out makeup against Crim on Tuesday March 11, 2003 @ 4:30 on the home field. Thank you for your time.

Grady started its 2003 baseball season on yesterday against the 5AAAAA Astros of Douglass High School. While the Astros strutted their 5AAAAA ranking in front of a home crowd to their suprise the 5AA Grady Grey Knights was not ready to lose their season opening to know one. The Grey Knight under to coaching of Head Coach Ronnie Millen, Assistant Coach Wilkerson and other defeat the astros by a score of 1-0. Unfortunetly it doesn't take but one to win and that what we needed. Please come out and support the Grey Knight at the first Home game of the season (Old Thurgood Marshall Middle School, Price Middle School) on Thursday March 6, 2003 @ 4:30pm against the Eagles of Crim High School and on Saturday March 8, 2003 against the Bulldogs of Washington High School on their field @ 11:00am. Way to go Knights Good Game.
