Stay loose. Hips arms and feet. Do what you feel flows together and dont be scared to repeat moves over and over till you get um right. It took me 3 months to be able to dance only a lil bit. so dont rush. Use your imagination and feel the muzik take control of ya body.\ SuPp0rT2K3@aol. Much props the the South Kak ravas.PLUR!!

Well, there normally isn't a set standard for what you "have" to do in raving. Everyone respects and admires a creative person, so be just that. Don't be intimidated by other people who seem to dance "better" than you, because is you're feeling the music (truly feeling it), then it does not matter. Just stay loose and piece things together the way you see fit! ;)

ah! i get it!

-- Anonymous, April 07, 2003

like the others said you just have to let yourself be controled by the music. personally i put myself into a trance and go with the beat. i like what i do, but i dont always know exactly what i am doing. because i get so into it. you really have to feel the music take over. lataz peeps. -Ry-

just let the music take over! no one cares how you dance its all in the music just let loose and enjoy

Well i dont have an answer...but i do get what u guys are saying...i do feel the beet. But what are the terms for different types of rave dancing? What do you do?

-- Anonymous, June 24, 2003

Actually, I was looking for the same thing. I know a lot of moves, but I was just searching for more. First, I would suggest that you find your preference of glowsticks. I, personally, like the little ones you put in your mouth because you can flow easier I find, others like the bigger ones because there is more light. Anyways, the first is to use one lead arm, and follow it with the other so it looks like a spinning hoola hoop. That is my favorite, though most basic, simply because you can speed up and slow down with the music. (Sorry I'm writing a lot, but I'm trying to help). Another is the figure 8, just take your lead hand and make a figure 8. Once you get it, do it with another. My third favorite (which is actually kinda tricky to get even) is to raise both of your hands so they are about the height of your head. Do not touch your hands together and make two spirals next to eachother in the air. Once you get it, they kinda look like two backwards e's in the air. I dunno, it's fun. hehe hope I helped somewhat!

Quick question I am starting to get into rave also i have a few friends the only thing whenever i do try to rave. like you said i don't know what to do, i know to stay relaxed and let myself go, but were do i get some actual lessons and watch people do this stuff, such as a site were i can learn new moves and techniques, my friends are pretty good the only thing they never rave when i am around or i never see them that often.

-- Anonymous, September 14, 2003

Look I'm a raver and I can only say one thing, don't worry about what your doing. It's completely made up, there is no format, there is no better or worse, it's just what you think is good. If your friends are good then what could determine if they are good or not? It's what people see, and think is cool. So do something that's "cool". Remember raving is a freestyle, anything goes.

YEAH pretty much melb ravers roooooool none u guys no how to dance like we do

-- Anonymous, October 28, 2003

Alright i've only been doing this for about a year so im kinda new but yea their right just feel the flow of the music and move with it i prefer the energy ball to glow sticks because i can do more and im better at it but you have to figure out what you like to do for yourself some people do liquid thats cool too but just have fun really thats all you need to worry about.

-- Anonymous, December 05, 2003

i agree with MelbRAVERSROOL. u guys know how to do the melbourne shuffle?

-- Anonymous, December 11, 2003

Kate Yo gave a good beginners technique response in my opinion. Try some basic patterns with one hand immitating the other. It may help to do the pattern in unison side by side. One of my favorites is a pair of slanted figure eights. You create a weaving pattern from it by making the 8's cross each other at a 90 degrees. It's complex but looks cool. Bottom line though like you heard above is flow with the music, feel the beat, let it control you and your movements.

Happy Hardcore, if you are somewhat limber, and your a quick learner, i suggest the best way to learn is watch and goto the raves and just watch them do it. I started trancing in July, my first time i just went with the flow of music, but afterwards i started watching people dance, and if your a quick learner, it should come in 3-4 times raving. But do not worry about what other people think of your dancing, i'd say 80% of the people who goto raves can't Trance at all. Flow with the music at first and let the rythm take over. As for a site to learn, hmm i must say there is 1 move i cannot do yet which i am also looking for, so your not alone. Happy Safe Raving ..

first fing iz first u need a decent set ov shoes chapz,go 4 the loafer look, pour beer over the floor were ur stood,go wiv a load ov gimps who are twice as bad as u,simple

-- Anonymous, December 23, 2003

im also just an amateur but i can tell you that if you try to copy what someone tells you to (figure of eights etc) then you probably wont get it. just be urself and do wot u want. and if that doesnt work then watch someone else on the dancefloor. just have fun. p.s. you melbournians are downright embarressing. u roooool yeah.

-- Anonymous, December 31, 2003

you kunts are fucked in da head ....da poofta is asking for fuckn tecniques so0o he can learn more moves ....he doesnt wanna know wat use are telling him...fuckin jus tell da kunt how 2 do figure 8 and teach him 2 liquid dance fuckn stupid kunts.....by da way wogz are da best at raving so0o every1 here can shut da fuck up....

-- Anonymous, January 02, 2004

I dont know about what these other kids told you I've never been big on the glow sticks myself because all there good for is hand motion and real raving uses the entire body. To start just do the wave in front of a mirror. For the noobs in the croud it just looks like a shock wave going from one hand to the other accrost the hands arms and body if you like. Anyways once you have that down you should be able to start to losen up the body a bit more. You can do the wave starting from all over the place just stick one hand out in the air somewere and the other somewere else and do a wave. eventualy you can get your entire body doing the wave and thats way more impresive and fun then just hand work with figure 8's and such. Not that hand work isnt important or cool, just not as cool ;) P.S. learning the moonwalk is always fun... not hard ether... just watch michel jackson and practice

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2004

south kak in tha house. dude just feel tha music and go with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!P>L>U>R>R

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2004

hey look all you really need to do is go find some tekno or go to a club a buy a cd from them but listen to the music and perferably the beat and then go buy some glow stick wait until the night and go at if you want to learn some new techiques go to the club and see what other ravers do copy maybe three techques and then try something new from that

p.s.once you get the glowsticks break them and like follow your hands and buy two pairs of glowsticks two different colors

-- Anonymous, January 12, 2004

Hey you know im only 13 but i still rave, its not really something that only certain people can do, you just have fun with stuff, mess around with it and see what you like. If your into the really fast techno or some of the slower stuff that can contribute to it a bit but it really doesnt matter. if you dont know how to have fun then good luck doing anything like this. see ya

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2004

yeah, i can agree with everyone else mostly. there is no oficial way to dance. if you feel the music, and it compells you to dance, then do so. i too have been looking for an official way to dance, in truth that's how i found this thing. I'm from arkansas though, but the webs huge. anyway, just move, that's all i gotta say.

hell ya...there's no steps. just go with it. let your body move naturally to the music & become the beats. it's so funny how people wonder what the steps are. so afraid to let your emotions take control...what will people think? you're not supposed to think. i hope dancing never loses that...dances with steps are for people without passion. keep the emotion in dance & go with it :) happy raving (ps...glowstix do help you by allowing your mind to focus on movement of light & energy & not thinking about how stupid you may look...let your body flow into the light)

Ezi fellers,

SpeedBlade, I am a fellow Brit, Manc Lad actually. I have been dancing to the core since I was 14 infact I cant dance to much else these days lol. If you want to dance to happy your better off practicing to something a little slower first till you find your rythem then just turn up the beats. You never know I might see you at timeless or creamfields someday!

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2004

I agree with the people above. U gotta go the melbourne shuffle. If your not from aus you'll look so unique and you'll rock the party. THE MELBOURNE SHUFFLE RULES THE RAVE SCENE

-- Anonymous, June 27, 2004

get used to the beat.........close ur eyes..........feel the music run through ur whole body........till u cant take the rushes no more...........move with it........however.........and do what ever comes natural........dancing is about how u feel at that precise momment its powerful and beautiful so ENJOY.....

Website?! What good will a website do for?! I don't think reading from words can get this poor fellor anywhere... but here comes the solution. I got a link to a great clip that shot some melbourne shufflers dancing. A few of them are alright but mostly great!

http://www.xes.cx/download/shuffle220k.zip

This is the best I got (I just got it today!). But I did the melbourne shuffle before I found out I am doing it! So... move as you feels like. Keep what you think looks nice, and learn you think looks nice. Try a way to incorporate them together into a set bits (in short, put them into a combo), then you are not far away from a true raver.

But moving with the music and let your mind go is a must. Why someone wanna learn something that is not their bit???

i started partying in 1996 and it took me about 5 months to become a fluent liquid dancer. and for me what it took was eating 2 good clean rolls and listening to some good house. my body started to feel weightless and all i could think about in my mind was the music could almost see the music as well as hear it. and my feet and body just started to move.. moves were happening that i had never seen before and had no idea i was able to do. the guy i went with looked at me and said "holly S*#t man , your dancing , i never realized you knew how *lol and i didnt but it just happened. and ever since that day its been like ridding a bike. ive never lost it . maybe a little bit with age but i can still groove . i dont know if it was the energy from the pill that helped me or if it was just the fact that i didnt care what people though of me while i was on it so i was able to let myself be free. dont know if i would recomend this to you for learning because i know alot of people as well as myself think that the partys arent about the drugs.. but sometimes to learn something new they help your mind and body. so make your own decissions and good luck to ya

G'day mate, I have your answer. I run a film production company in Melbourne and have been raving for 7 years. A group of us are putting together a full length documentary focusing on the Melbourne Shuffle which has become famous across the world because of the unique freestyle movements. We will be covering all the techniques, the devleopment, the history and much more about the shuffle. We will look at the current movements and the older style which we believe is some what more expressive. We will be giving a total insight into the Melbourne scene. We are currently filming and have a site (www.melbourneshuffler.com) that shows information on where where filming, the progress where making and has a promo, short clips and photos. Its our love of this form of self expression that has made us want to share it with the world. Visit the site or e- mail us about any questions. Good luck mate, once it's perfected is so much fun!

FUC* CLUB KIDS - LETS GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

-- Anonymous, September 28, 2004

ok... now ive read alot on here but my bruvaaa there is no real way of learning how to shuffle. i mean i been in the rave industry fer near on 12 years now as a d.j, producer, rockah, promoter and so on. only in the past 2 years have i really started to concentrate on dancing... and the best advice is to watch what other people are doing and if you like it, then adapt a small part of it into your own style of rockin! all in all i have probably got 100 or more diferent shufflin styles within my own... and include that with sum unique hat dancin, and there u go.... a kik ass shuffle that gets people comin up to my and shakin my hand!!! and no glowsticks even come into play!!! the other trick is to "feel" tha muzik... once u can really trance out to tha tunez bein played.... add your emerging shuffle... and everything comes together! p.s. when all else fails, the basis of a shuffle is say..... twistin on the ball of your right foot, whilst doing this pump your left foot back and forth behind you in a diagnol step... seee we cant even describe it! or u can wait till the d.v.d. "melbourne shuflerz" comes out... its a documentory on the melbourne shuffle... being filmed as we speak!!! find a style and flow with it, as long as u feel it in your heart, nobody can bring u down fer it.... it can only bring appreciation and respect from "true rockah's" like myself!!! i have even developed or at least in the early stages of developing a "moonwalk shuffle"!!! all tha best of luck to ya bruv!!! ZeN

-- Anonymous, October 01, 2004

Alright, yo speedblade im guessing ur getting a bit confused eh. do this, go on kazza, soulseek, watever, download as many liquid video clips you can get ur hands on and learn how to liquid. simple as that.its jus too hard to try and explain 'techniques' with words, u gotta watch it yourself. and yes, the melbourne shuffle does kick ass but imo the way they do it in sydney is better. kinda more 'aggressive' and faster. with more stomping involved.

i would say pretend your a kid at a candy store. go nuts! or what i like to recall off that wall at turned on 2 in minneapolis: party likes its your last roll likes its your first and DANCE LIKE NOBODY IS WATCHING! haha stay true to the scene.

-- Anonymous, October 21, 2004

I cant believe your asking this question this question on a web poll. If you really dont know how to rave, go to a club and watch. Or drink 30 redbulls and listen to the music. As the music takes over record your self.

-- Anonymous, November 02, 2004

Try www.houseofrave.com

oh and forget the melbourne shuffle..thats only for the slow cruisy beats. if u want to dance to hardcore or gabba.go the brisbane stomp.we're makin our own vids atm.

-- Anonymous, November 05, 2004

I'd check out videos by David Elsewhere, Mr. Wiggles and other clips you can find on kazaa or gnutella. After searching for "waving", "locking" "liquid", "popping", "gliding" and other similar terms I found many clips which you can watch before going to a club.

-- Anonymous, December 23, 2004

I don't think that this is something that can be "taught"- you just have to go out and watch people who listen to the music you like/go to the same clubs/events. I have found that different music encourages different styles of dancing (i'm a Melbournian/hard trance fan- Go the mighty shuffle!!!).The most important thing is to have a good time and not worry about what other people think-anyone who goes to a rave to criticise other peoples dance move's doesen't understand the spirit of the scene, and probably shouldn't be there anyway!!! Dont be intimidated- I started raving about 3 years ago and I'm just starting to perfect my on own style, also I don't think you should try to hard to dance like other people or else you wont develop your own style.best of luck/keep rockin....

P.s Kai Tracid is a living god!!!

I've been raving since i was 12. Going to unders and stuff. My brother who is a raver (and will be on the melbourne shuffler documentry), tought me how to rave melbourne shuffle with hat tricks and all sorts of stuff. Every body's raving is different its your own thing just dance like your apart of the musikkk, just listen and go with it. It would be like impossible to do if u didnt listen to the musik. chilax and do your own thing. Also i would just like to say that it isn't all about drugs its not koOl how people judge raverz and call them drugo and MELBOURNE SHUFFLERZ RULE THE RAVING SCENE !!
