Accessible high chaird

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Disabled Parents Network : One Thread

Is any body aware of any highchairs that either have a swing away tray or a tray that passes up and over the baby’s head. Basically a design that would allow a parent with poor manual dexterity to get her child in and out of it easily. If you've any ideas or suggestions please let us know. Thank you

I have a Chicco Mamma highchair which has a removable tray. I bought it about a year ago and at the time it was the only highchair we could find that had a completely removable tray and allowed the baby to be placed into the seat rather than lowered into it from above.

The catch to release the tray is underneath the tray and quite fiddly to operate, you have to hold a button in and pull a lever towards you at the same time. The tray is big and quite heavy too, but it can be stored on the back of the highchair.

I hope this is of some help!

I used a Mamas and Papas Prima Papa Highchair for my daughter six years ago (cost then was approx. £100).

The good points were a highly padded seat with 5 reclining positions, which made it very good for a very young (six month old) baby, which as I couldn't hold her to feed her solids was a great bonus. Like the previous posting, the tray was totally removable, but tricky to pull off (a lever underneath the front of the tray which had to be pulled towards you as you pulled the tray off - also it was very heavy.

The chair is also height adjustable (5 heights) and can be folded and transported, but is quite a heavy solid chair, and quite complicated to fold!

It also had wheels on the bottom on the feet (wich can be locked into position), so it was very easy to wheel baby from room to room in it!

The 5 point harness was quite tricky to operate for someone with limited dexterity and no thumbs, but very secure.
