Auburndale Interlocking

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Was there an interlocking tower in Auburndale prior to the merger? If so, several questions - whose was it (ACL or SAL)? Where was it located (i.e., which quadrant of the interchange)? Are there any photos or plans available?

If there was a tower there, and since it was Seaboard who was the late-comer to the spot in the 1920's, wouldn't the responsibility for it have been SAL's? Therefore wouldn't the tower have belonged to SAL? You've got my curiosity up now. Regards, Danny Harmon Tampa

Several years ago, I sent an article on Auburndale and a photo (distant) of the tower along the south side of the original overpass to "Lines South" For whatever reason, it was never published, but there is a photo in existence.

So, Joe, I shouldn't bother to try to model it... well, one less structure to scratchbuild.

Well Joe ,I guess thats why you should never say "never". I stand corrected because if anyone would know,it would be you. Thanks for the correction , Dan

I hate to tell ole Danny boy.But there was an interlocker at Auburndale. It was located in the southwest quarter of the diamond.I think some of the foundation is still there.I don't know who built or maintained it,but I would go with ACL.The ACL was there first (about 1900-02).The SAL did not come through until the extention was built from Coleman to WPB in the twenties.I don't know when it was torn down, but evidently sometime before the fiftes,as Dan said it was not there then.

There was never an interlocking tower or plant in Auburndale to the best of my knowledge. Auburndale was in CTC territory when I worked the signal maintainers assistant job in the fifties so there was no need for an interlocking. This was on the Coast Line side. Hope this helps, Dan King
