Who, me?? :-)

-- Tricia the Canuck (jayles@telupslanet.net), February 12, 2003.

Invitations sent to the Cascadians, Aunt Bee, Brooke, Chuck, Diane, Donna Barthuley, Gayla, Old Git, Kritter, Linda, Lon, Robert Cook, Unk and our Count SOBob. If you send it on to anyone else, please let me know that you've done so. Ooooooops, I forgot to send to Carlos and Lars. I'll do that pronto. Hmm, sent :-)

-- T the C (j@t.n), February 13, 2003.

I changed Kritter's name ... but heaven help me, it may not take effect until midnight 2/13/03.

-- helen (idiot@dumbkoff.fool!), February 13, 2003.

I'm guessing I'm legal now-LOL!

Passing the chocolate mousse pie, garnished with crushed almond pralines.

And glad to see we are safe from the kiddies now!

Hugs all around, and oh, don't forget apoc!

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), February 13, 2003.

Thanks for the password, Tricia.

Kritter's real name is off the front, Helen.

I think Lon has deserted us. :-(

-- Gayla (privacy@please.com), February 13, 2003.

You might want to set up an e-mail account with yahoo for frlfriends. One reason is if Philip Greenspun decides to change things and needs to contact forum owners, the mail will bounce. He might decide to arbitrarily delete any forums where mail bounces from the owners. Same thing if anyone wants to contact Kritter for the password. Oldtimers pop up now and again, worms eat address books, computers just die. For instance, I just heard from WIll Continue who saw the Currents mail address on godlikeproductions.com.

If you like, in the meantime you can use the Currents mail address: jas_donald@yahoo.com, and I'll forward anything that turns up.

-- Old Git (anon@spamproblems.ugh), February 13, 2003.

Well gee thanks, Tricia! You spoiled all my fun. I've been trying to guess the password for two days, and you go and send it to me by email! I think I was gettin' pretty close, too.

I guess this was needed, in light of the recent tampering, but you all know we will no longer get new members who just drop in. I think that is how we snagged Carol of Oz, and I'm sure glad we did. Maybe we could invite guests now and then, I don't know. But thanks for the maintenance work.

-- Lon Frankenstien (evil@the.bayou), February 13, 2003.

Ok, let me get this straight ... the email address listed on the same page that boogered me into posting Kritter's name ... THAT email address should be changed?

I think one other person should get keys since Kritter is still MIA ... you guys get to vote.

RE: new people

I'm hoping that we can unpassword or decloak in a week or so. We can all keep the password in case the troll returns. I figure they'll go away, and if they come back, we can make them go away again.

Vote on that idea too.

Wow, power. I ... I ... am uncomfortable with it. I follow The Mule.

-- helen (harried@hurried.horrified), February 13, 2003.

I put this address into a slot that has a defunct address for kritter.

-- helen (this_a_real_address@yahoo.com), February 13, 2003.

Saladudations and greetings.

-- Robert A. Cook, PE (cook.r@watchinghelen.orbs), February 13, 2003.

Helen, I'm also hoping we can decloak in a while. We want to have new folks stop by and maybe some will stay, like Carol did.

IMHO, it would be good to keep the password capability so that if another situation comes up, we can protect the site quickly whenever needed.

Now, Helen, I have something special to tell you ;-)

You have proven to be a very Worthy and Loyal FRLian, with true leadership skills in times of diversity. Therefore, it is time we did something extra nice for you. So, by the powers invested in me as Fearless FRLian ChiefTin, to be known as Chief Holder of the Keys.

Congratulations, Helen, and keep up the good work!!!!

-- (sonofdust@de.cloak), February 13, 2003.

Dang, what happened?

Helen, what I was trying to post is this; You now have a formal FRLian title--- You are the FRL's Holder of the Keys!

-- (sonofdust@typing.flu), February 13, 2003.

Clapping for Helen! Hooray!

Did anybody email Carol? Mr. Frankenstein, do you have her email address? Tell your twin, after he gets done fishing of course, to get himself over here!

-- Gayla (privacy@please.com), February 13, 2003.

sniffle

I shall grip them real tight!

What's the deal with the EZ Board alternative site?

-- (lars@indy.net), February 14, 2003.

Hi lars. Some of us are still posting there, as well as here. You can go there and just lurk if you want. In order to post there, you'll need to register. I guess the intent is still to have it as a backup site just in case, and to keep up this forum as the primary FRL site.

-- (sonofdust@back.home), February 14, 2003.

good, I like it better here

-- (lars@indy.net), February 14, 2003.

Me too, Lars :-)

-- Tricia the Canuck (jayles@telusplanet.ent), February 15, 2003.

OK, I have a stupid question:

Two people have emailed me about the FRL password. That's what the titles of the emails say. The thing is, I don't want a virus on my pooter and someone was messing with us before.

1) Do virii come through yahoo accounts? Should I use Lon's computer instead?

2) How the heck do I know who these people are? Should we just not have an email contact address for now? Do I ignore them? Bounce them? Admit them?

Responsibility isn't as much fun as I thought.

-- helen (handing@keys.off.to.anyone.who.wants.them.except.LonFrankenstein), February 15, 2003.

Yahoo should automatically check for a virus. Hotmail does. If they don't have attachments, you should be fine.

So, we're supposed to post here and not there?

-- Gayla (now@I'm.confused), February 15, 2003.

I'm gonna just start posting here again most of the time, but will occasionally post on EZ so I stay active there too. As far as a virus, Gayla is right. Don't open anything with an attachment unless you know who sent it. If you're really paranoid, before you open it send the person an 'e' checking that they just sent you e-mail with an attachement. Nothing is fool-proof, but this should help.

While the forum is passworded, it probably makes sense not to have folks sending mail asking for it! Now, as far as giving out passwords to folks we don't know, I think it would be preferable to decloak. Then we can still have the protection if we the password. By decloaking now, you can reply to their mail saying the forum will become available shortly without any password and all they have to do is check back in a while.

After decloaking if we are attacked again, we can turn on the passwording and send passwords to any new folks that have joined us. I don't like this whole thing very much and wish it could just be free and open so anyone could bounce in here, but if the price we pay is denial of our own service we have to act to protect ourselves and it comes with an expense.

Anyway, this is just my opinion. Let Helen know what you think.

-- (sonofdust@decloak.now), February 15, 2003.

Helen, if you're going to spell "puter" as "pooter", then shouldn't you spell ""stupid" as "stoopid"?

Anally yours, lars

-- (lars@indy.net), February 15, 2003.

Argh! Sorry, I didn't see this thread before I posted. I'm very tired tonight. Sorry! )-:

-- (Meemur@Tree.Street), February 15, 2003.

Hi all. Isn't it good to be back. I feel like kicking my shoes off and yelling "Honey I'm home".

A seriously big thank you to Helen, Tricia (Keeper of Addresses) and Gayla for all they did to keep things together. Also to OG for letting us play at her place.

Lol Lon. I'm glad I'm not the only one who tried to guess the password. I felt like a bit of a dill, but I can't resist a challenge. I got a bit worried it might be like when you put the wrong pin in the teller machine and it eats your card. No telling what was going to happen.

Helen, I tried sending for the password from hotmail, so one of those you don't recognize could be from me. The address would start with "car" if that's any help.

-- Carol (c@home.again), February 16, 2003.

Oh, Carol, that was you!

-- helen (gripped@with.paranoia), February 16, 2003.

Thanks for the password Tricia.

"Been there. Done that. Got the tee-shirt."

I assume FRL Friends was besmirched? No surprise.

Prefer the Greenspun board to EZboard... always have. Don't appreciate the trolls. Sigh.

Kritter, get a Yahoo (or similar type) account as the bounce back for Phil Greenspun. Primary moderator should control. Important. Also troll types won't be able to connect with your "real" e-mail.

Happy belated Valentine's Day all!

Diane

-- Diane J. Squire (sacredspaces@yahoo.com), February 17, 2003.

Hi Diane! Great to see ya!

(Uh, Folks, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has more experience moderating Greenspun FRL that Diane, so listen to her!)

Diane, IF we can't get in touch with kritter, then what? She is still mia as far as I know. Thanks to Helen and Tricia and OG, the FRL still lives. If kritter remains mia, what would be our options?

-- (sonofdust@what.next), February 17, 2003.

Thank you.
