Ducati buys Bimota

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

Just read a press release that said Ducati has purchased Bimota. I don't know what they plan to do with it, but it occurs to me that Tamburini WAS Bimota, and they are only getting a name. The bikes have gone nowhere since Tamburini left. I hope that they use Bimota for a higher end, more experimental line of bikes, and revive the old build-quality standards that Bimota was famous for. At least we can be happy that another great Italian brand name is going to be saved from the dumpster. However, I am staying with Tamburini, and putting my money on an MV.

Tom, do you have a link to post? I'd like to read the full article if possible.

Thanks!

Here's one of the links to it http://www.amasuperbike.com/2002- Nov/021127c.htm. Apparently I was a little incorrect, and it is Lorenzo Ducati, a son of one of the Ducati brothers, who bought Bimota for 2 million. This is an older linkthan the one I read yesterday, but I couldn't remember where to find the newer one. I think that if Lorenzo bought it, it will likely be a division of Ducati. Whatever happens, it is good news for Bimota fans, since their old factory is now a furniture shop.

There is a short article in Cycle World or Motorcyclist, I can't remember which. Explains what took place.

That's a great news for BimoTA! I hope to see them back on the track.. at least after MV joins the MotoGP. I cant forget the eye- cathing SB1/SB2 also the bike with the exhaust pipe over the fuel tank. I also recall bimota has introduced the concentric swingarm/sprocket, the MV-like side plates and the rising rate monoshock. I really liked the ill fated V-due and even the 500cc ditech GP racer. BUt im really expecting new innovations by taking motorcycling to another level. I also want to see some tamburini ideology in their design because the "TA" will never be forgotten.

Sure did Lorenzo Ducati buy the remainings of Bimota. Fact is, he has nothing to do with the Ducati Factory, he is making drives for garagedoors and things like that. But he also still holds the rigth on the brandname Ducati. So i am wondering what he´s up to? Making a Bimota-Ducati, or a Ducati-Bimota,or a Bimcati??

Never owned a Bimota, maybe this time......

isnt it bimota's bikes are like partnered with another brand? Like YB-9 (yahmaha-bimota 9), KB-1(kawasaki bimota-1) and a lot more of HD's, SB's. so there might possibly be a DB999 (ducati bimota999) or DB916 etc. whatever...... :)

I'm no Bimota expert but I think Bimota uses engines and a few other components from other manufacturers.

Its unlike what CRC does to the F4. all the components are designed by themselves. uncompromised
