Sony NS300 won't read VCD on CDRW

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi,

I just recently purchased an Asus 52x24x52x writer. I use Nero 5.5.9.2 for disk authoring. Just created a VCD and tested it on the PC's DVD drive using WinDVD and it is detected and views fine. I've read the post regarding this issue and the recommendation was to use CDRW disks which I have done, but still the NS300 DVD player won't recognise the disk. I'm using Memorex 700MB(1x4x) as test disks (all i've got at the mo'). Anyone got any ideas, my folks have the same DVD and it would be useful for sending Photos and Video. All help appreciated.

See what the DVD player compatibility list at http://www.vcdhelp.com says about your player. CDRW typically works fine on all Sony players I know of. I can tell you that Sony brand CD-RWs definitely work.

the only cdr that your sony can read, [i burnt a lot of other brands...],is the TDK CD-R 74,in normal case [not slim], REFLEX ULTRA, written at 16x

I've had success with multiple brands but they've all been 650MB CD- RWs. I tried a ciuple of different brand 700MB CD-RWs and the ns300 failed to recognise a disc was in the drive.

I think the key is in making sure you buy 650MB (1-4x) not 700MB discs.

Also, NS300 is picky about resolutions. I only managed to get 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL) to play properly, 704x480 and 704x576 result in a mostly garbled/pixelated mess for me. Although all seems fine in Windows Media Player on my PC.
