Flowering Mimosa- Silk Tree, scarification of seeds

greenspun.com : LUSENET : VictorySeeds.com : One Thread

I have some seeds from a Flowering Mimosa, also known as the Silk Tree. I would like to germinate the seeds, but have been told they need scarification. I am unfamiliar with the technique, Can anyone enlighten me.

It is a process of preconditioning seeds with very hard seed coats. Basically you are trying to weaken the seed coat (the outer covering) without damaging the seed itself. You can try sandpaper or using a sharp penknife to nick the surface.
