Hello! Does anyone know any history of Club Fugazi - current home of the Beach Blanket Babylon show? Has it always been a theater?

Ignore the imposter. Please do. That's not me. I do know that it might be on Green street, it has been renamed "Beach Blanket Babylon Drive".

Yes, of course. I even knew some people who worked there. It is pretty well known among the the Babylon crowd that John Fugazi built it and that he had a famous architect by the name of Zanolini design it. Fugazi was a banker and the founder of the Transamerica Company and partner to A.P. Giannini who was head of Bank of America.

Keep me in mind if anybody finds out something about Zanolini, the architect. In 1914, he designed a two story building in Livermore that may end up on the National Register.

There are a LOT of Zanolinis involved in architecture. Fugazi's friend was "Italo Zanolini." I got a lot of hits for him using google, but most were in Italian. He's done work at the Italian Cemetery (where Fugazi is buried) and in the Sanctuary of the Madonna in Citta de Cantu (I may not have spelled that one right).

Club Fugazi, or Fugazi Hall, as it was called in the 60's and 70's, was an Italian Social Club on Green Street, in North Beach. I used to work at New Joe's on Broadway, and on weekends, when they had live music, I used to go dancing there. Then in the late 70's, the place became a theatre where Beach Blanket Babylon played maybe for a couple of decades.
