Emulsion transfer to glass and steel

Has anyone ever done an image or emulsion transfer to glass or steel? I am trying to do that right now. How do i get the image to stick afterwards?

Thanks!

I was able to make this work only by putting the glass in the water and transfering it that way - it dried accordingly - wasn't the most professional - but if you find out differently let me know! Thanks!

The transfer to glass worked out just fine, but the transfer to steel just peeled off and crumbled very shortly after I floated the steel under the image. I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to get the image to adhere to steel?

Hi Pam,

What I did was use a sander (you might be able to use plain sandpaper, I don't know?) to make the surface of the metal slightly textured. I didn't try it on smooth steel first, but the transfer has stayed on the textured metal very well. I also know a person who does her emulsion transfers onto metal and I believe she sandblasts the surface first.

Good luck! Angela

Hi, yes, I do transfers onto glass all the time...I use the emulsion transfer process, then lift it out of the water with a piece of mylar, appy to the glass get it into postion with asmall wet brush or just wet fingers, and voila! I spray it all afterwards with a protecting laquaer(usualy a "MacDonaldcoat"). I place it so that the image is on the inside of a frame and it is ready to display, and is protected...
