Greetings, While exploring an old stretch of the Coast line that's been abandoned, I found imbedded in some of the ties a metal "S" formed from a flat strip of steel. Was this an ID implemented by SCL? Thanks in advance--

No, it is mainly used to hold the ends of the ties together while the tie injectors are shoving them under the rail.
