Uneven skin tone on image transfer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : polaroid transfers : One Thread

First let me begin by saying "Thanks!" for this website. I have emailed numerous artists with the following question but have received no responses. It is wonderful to have a forum in which to ask and answer questions concerning image transfer. O.K. on to the question...Whenever I transfer an image of a person (head or head and shoulders) the skin tone looks very mottled. I use Arches 140lb hot press watercolor paper with a wet transfer process. I use Polacolor 669 film and a Vivitar Slide Printer. After the vinegar bath, I can smooth out the "skin" with gently rubbing my finger over the surface of the picture, but sometimes I lose the features of the face. I first thought I needed to try the dry process but reading several other questions within this site, I read that you always use the wet process. Please help!

I would suggest to remove excess of water from the paper before trying the dry process. I don't soak my paper very long and then I use blotting paper. I would say what I am doing is a semi-dry or semi- wet transfer process. The image transfer below was rephotographed rather than scanned to show more paper texture.
