Furnace blower won't startgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread |
I recently noticed that my furnace blower will not start by itself. When it should be starting, all I hear is a humming sound from the furnace. I oddly enough, if I give the blower wheel a small nudge to get it rolling (I initially suspected a seized blower wheel, so I turned it by hand), it will start turning and run fine. As it is winter, and I need my heat, I have set the fan to run contantly, then I went downstairs, gave the fan a nudge and quickly put the cover back on so that the switch would be "on"... now it runs 24/7. The furnace is about 13 years old. Any help appreciated! Mark

Mark! Assuming the voltage is correct, the ground wire is ok and no broken wires anywhere--it is either the capacitor for the blower motor--if it has one. If it doesn't have a capacitor then the start windings are shot in the motor. old hoot. Matt.24:44
