Ok, I seem to have found no answer in the threads..... So anybody, help? ive got some realmedia files, i want to change them to mpeg1 since my bro told me that's the only way i can write them into a cd via Nero... So........ Does anybody know of a converter that can at least change rm to another format, any format would be of help(and can i request even free), or; another way of writing rm files into a cd....???

I really need help since my files are so precious and i cant seem to store them anywhere else. ^^

Do a web search for a program called tinra. Tinra will convert Real Media files to AVI. You can encode AVI to MPEG-1 with a variety of programs such as TMPGenc or even Nero itself so you can burn a VCD. Real Media is terrible quality. It drops frames and does all kinds of nasty things. Don't be surprised if your final results look bad - garbage in, garbage out.

oh ok thanks! ill try that. yah i know its of poor quality. but my very important file which is so hard to find only exists in rm. thanks again ill look for it. ü

I found one called EO Video. www.eo-video.com. It's a free 30 day trial, then they want $34.95. If you can do all your conversions in 30 days, go for it. It's easy to use, and will also convert quicktime to .mpeg or .avi if you have quicktime installed.

Yeah, EO is pretty bad. Try Tinra (search under google), its nearly twice as fast and it doesn't crash

USE THIS: http://www.rmconverter.com/

I already tried that, but the videos were like slideshow! As in they are very crappy, and the audio sound is faster than the video (perhaps it is still compressed) Maybe someone here knows how to encode RM to AVI or MPEG which ALSO decompresses the audio.

I've tried both RM Converter, and EO-Video and they both change the files into larger files...i'm talking like 7 times larger than the rm. i.e. I had a RM clip that was 1.93 MB and it was converted to AVI and 555 MB. What's up here????

-- Andrew Claussen (rewclaus@nmt.edu), August 04, 2003.

Because that new converted video is not compressed with a codec like xvid or Divx. if you are using Tinra u need the Stable.exe to resink the frames/audio and compress it with a codec of your choice

-- vinod manchala (vinodmax1@yahoo.com), May 01, 2004.

you can get one of these rm to avi converters eg. eo-video or rm converter. Then download virtualdub from www.virtualdub.org (freeware). Then open the .avi in virtualdub click on audio(dropdown menu) then make sure it is on 'direct stream copy'. Go to file, save as wav then when it has made the wav file use an mp3 encoder to make an mp3.
