Nuetrality of the neutral light: Problem with gears or light?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

After riding and letting the engine get hot and stopping, I can't seem to get the nuetral to come on. Letting go of the clutch, the bike will be in nuetral. I can turn off the engine and the nuetral light will light up with all the other lights, but the MV won't start until I pull in the clutch.

Does it sound like a problems with the neutral light or the gears?

My 01 1+1 has the same symptoms. The dealer said that it is a defective neutral switch. It is located in the gearbox and it needs the oil drained before it can be removed from under the block.

I have found that there is a connector plug that runs between the rear shock and the engine, that, either gets wet or comes lose (or both). I have fiddled with it and it seems to address the problem. Try that and let me know what happens. Be warned that it is kinda hard to get to it without disassembling stuff.

Your neutral switch is defective and must be replaced (warranty item.) If the neutral light is not illuminated even when the bike is in neutral because of a defective switch, you will be unable to start the engine with the stand down despite the fact that the bike is not in gear and in fact is in neutral. Replacement requires draining the oil and replacing the switch which is in the vicinity of the gearbox.
