the whole of his life is based around his books, any thing that occurs in his life reflects his writing, if you have read about his life which u say you have you will probably remember that it was not one which is too cheerfull, of coarse that whole theme is reflected in all of his writings, eg. his wife dying is percieved in many of his short stories, look deeply in to his work, it is not hard to spot similarities in his life and writings.

The best start is www.eapoe.org with a complete record of Poe's own writings and many articles and bibliographies. They recommend the best biographies which is good since Poe provokes divisions among his critics. A natural poet, sensitive and orphaned and isolated, prey to poverty and bad fortune. He found a resonance with the contemporary Romantic movement early on in strong emotional and intuitive expression in art. A literary man from head to toe, a genius, an unsparing and discerning critic, a popularist and innovator, more actually Platonic and appreciative in his relations with women than Shelley. He preferred the short united artwork according to the limits of human attention and comprehension, but he preferred vague suggestiveness PLUS scientific reason rather than supernatural or purely shocking Gothic styles.(no "hyperbolic Germanisms" as Sir Walter Scott termed them.)
