ACL-SAL Cars in Mexico

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I received a message today about three ex-ACL or SAL cars that have wound up in excursion service in Mexico. The person who sent the email, Juan Vildarosa, asked for more information, but I doubt it will be possible to identify the cars just from what he told me in his email:

"In 2000 down to mexico 3 ex acl ( or sal ) passenger cars. Are pullman std but with stainless over the sides. 1 found the "Savannah" name and the another 2 we canīt find names. All bought in Anbel Corp in Brownsville Tx."

I can forward the photos Juan sent to anyone who is interested.

I wrote him back to ask for additional details, like type of car, number of seats and any other information that he can give.

Does this description ring a bell with anyone? One looks like it might be a Tavern-Obs.

Forgot to mention that the Savannah was numbered 31 on the SAL roster.

The car Savannah certainly does. SAL had a 10 roomette 6 double bedroom named Savannah that was built by P-S May-June 1949 Plan 4140A Lot 6796. It was a cor-ten steel car with stainless steel sides and fluted SS roof. If you can forward the photos to me, I will be happy to help.
