I'm currently testing nhb, and using half a dozen sets running overnight, every half hour. I find that the last one has slowed to a crawl, one file per second approximately. Shutting it down and restarting the synch doesn't help. The only cure is a reboot, and then it flies again. Running Windows 2000 with all the latest patches, and synching to other windows 2000 machines.

Checking task manager resources shows 100% cpu spikes every second or so when it's slow, and in the 10% cpu useage when it's going good, and no problems with memory useage ever.

Any ideas on what's wrong? Bug?

Strange... How much data is it? Are the NHB programs running simultaniously? In spearate instances of the same exe file?

I can't say I know exactly what's going on. But I hade a suggestion for you:

1. Download the new BETA found on the homepage. I think it's safe enough. Test run it a couple of times to make sure. I ran my own documents backup today with the new beta and it was perfect. This new beta uses an totaly new search procedure and it might be better for you.

2. Use the new log option, and have NHB shut down directly when the backup has finished. So there won't be more than one instance of the program running simultainiously. Use the log for the backup results.

further note:

large directories / drives involved - one synch is 15,000 files and 1000 directories, another is 40,000 files and 1500 directories, others smaller, but still significant. Seems ok with just one set, it's multiple sets that seems to be the problem, especially if they run concurrently due to time constraints.

One instance of the exe, theoretically not running simultaneously, but every half hour another one starts, and if the previous one isn't finished yet, then yes more than one at a time. Also I have "show results" on, so eventually there will be half a dozen results windows waiting.

TOTAL data size is 18 gb. Total # of files is in the region of 130,000. Nine different nhb sets. Yeah it's a lot. :)

If I can get it to work reliably I'll be VERY happy to contribute - I make a point of supporting authors whose software I USE, and will also be using it for clients in the future.

Same problem here with WIN2000. I got 100.000 files and only one instance running and it just slows down after a while, increasing the number of page faults and taking all the CPU.

Was that problem finally found out ?
