We want to homestead but cant please help!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

Hello everyone, My name is Jennifer and I hope that somebody can help me out maybe they have done it before and know how. My husband is 25 and I am 24 we want to have a small homestead more than anything we have two small children one 6 1/2 and the other 2. I homeschool my oldest. So I can't work not that I'd put my kids in daycare anyway. But my husband does and in the fall he works two jobs right now he is working 18 to 22 hours a day with one morning and one evening off. So its not for lack of trying. We were young when we married and even younger when we had kids. Credit was something our parents talked about so needless to say ours is shot. Being young and stupid can definatly cost you a lot. So with bad credit, being young and poor I dont see how it will ever happen. And I cant see sacraficing our children by putting them in daycare so we can both work our butts off to mayby have it by the time we retire. I want my children to have it as well.

thannks for listening to me any advice is welcome.

Jennifer

Jennifer I am not sure that I can help, but I wanted to make a comment about what you are doing.

You are home, and homeschooling your children. Your priorities are in the right order. Children first, everything else second. I greatly admire folks who do that.

I know how badly you want a homestead. I remember living on the edge of a small town in a trailer court (Park). We could just taste the country, yet we could not seem to get out of where we were. Finally out of desperation we borrowed most of the down payment from a friend. After over five years we finally got our spot in the country, but it was difficult to say the least to keep it, paying back both loans. Once the small loan was paid things inmproved greatly.

We also homeschooled in the early 80's, when if you said homeschool to someone, they thought "looney bin material". Glad that has changed for everyone. My daughter is now homeschooling at her house. It is so nice that she can do that without ridicule and fear of the police.

If you have anything more specific that I might be able to help you with feel free to e-mail me. I would be glad to help in any way that I can.
