Winter wear

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

I ordered insulated waterproof boots from Carharts, yesterday. I am sick and tired of getting melted snow trickling into my Bass boots as I work: and I am even sicker of getting cold when I am outside. I am going to order winter wear from the ground up, and I will stop when I get WARM!

These boots are supposed to be good down to -20, and I expect to get 100% wool socks from Mickeys Salvage when I get around to going down town. The wool blend that I own just isn't cutting it.

What do you folks favor for winter wear?

depends on what IM doing,, MIckey Mouse boots, fro RELALY cold things,,, but they feel like clod hoppers,, so I do have a pair of duck boots also. If IM not going to get my feet wet,, then my normal work boots will extra socks are fine. Carhart Jacket,,, bid overhauls, (again, If its real cold or snowmobiling) 8 dollar snowmobileing gloves, unless IM working or wood cutting ro such, then a pair of insulated leather ones,

Wool socks, red longhandles and a fleece lined flannel overshirt when neccesary.

Does it even get COLD where you are, Jay :-)!! Just jokin'! During the winter here, we don't worry so much about what we wear on our bodies since we usually have a dry cold here. Lots of times we work outside in just a sweatshirt in the middle of January! But...good warm boots and gloves or mittens are a must. Frostbite occurs soooo quickly!! A wool hat helps keep the heat within our bodies also.

I have to quit wearing cut off levis, put on shoes rather than sandals and put on a light jacket, it is brutal :)

Ok, actually it will get a hard freeze for a few days here.

We're supposed to get those 60 degree temps over the weekend, Stan. Early this morning it was 15 degrees...now it's almost 50!!! Talk about yo-yo temps!

Our two weeks of winter hit in Jan/Feb usually. Then we get teens for 3 to 5 days, 6 inches of ice, power outages and frozen pipes. Then it warms back up to the 40s and rain, then freezes one or two more times, then we start our seedlings. :>)

We get two weeks of "spring" in late Jan. or early Feb. but then it's back to 4 to 6 wks. of winter. Then WE start our seedlings :-)!!

Jay - You must be a site going about in nothing but your red longjohns and a flannel shirt! Oh yeah, socks too. Last year was the first year I owned a coat in 15 yrs. I guess I'm getting old. It doesn't get too cold here, today its gonna be 80, we have the doors and windows open already at 9 am.
