Breakfast - Yes or No

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

Do you eat breakfast and if you do what do you consider breakfast foods? For me it doesn't matter if it's bacon & eggs or left over chili or pizza. Most days I don't eat until around 10:30 so I've been up over 5 hrs. My friends think I'm odd, they feel that the first meal of the day should be things like eggs, breads,or cereal. So what do you eat and when?

Pancakes, sausage , eggs, toast, coffee and juice. Since my divorce I have been working on an enviromental chamber and computer I/O controller to cook my breakfast the night before and store it in my Coleman hot/cold chest so that before I wake up, my PC can start my coffee and toast and transition the Coleman from 38f. storage temp to 150 f. serving temp quick enough to avoid salmonelia. I may have to opt instead for a conveyor system between a dorm refrigerator and toaster oven.

I dont want to have to get married again just to get breakfast when I first wake up. I guess my hound dog tries, but rawhides are not appetizing at 530 in the morning :>)

I do best if I get a little protien in the AM, but I really don't like to cook when I first wake up. I am seriously considering making deviled eggs for breakfast the night before!

when I make breakfast,, its usually eggs toast, maybe bacon or sausage, otherwise, its whats ever left over from the day before, chilli, spaghetti, meatloaf, or whatever.

My hubby is a big breakfast eater. He loves a "full course" breakfast, but usually we don't have time...even on weekends! We try to make time to go out to breakfast at least once a month on a slow weekend. My favorites are French toast and blueberry pancakes!! During the week we only have time for coffee and some homemade blueberry coffee cake or muffins...which I love to make!!

BTW...cold pizza is always good, too!!

I generally eat one meal a day, in the evening. sometimes I'l snack something around noon.

If I had a choice of breakfast foods , it would be a piece of organically grown fruit just pick from a tree close by .A few figs or oranges ,apples. If that ain't available a few cigarettes and a pot of coffe will do .

John , do you see any advantages of only eating one meal a day besides being able to go up and down a latter real quick. And spending less on food . I'm guessin you ain't over weight . I also skip breakfast and usually eat only one meal a day ( evenings ). Often I'll go with out eating for a day or 2 and still do work that needs doing. And I never lose or gain weight.( Eating , what a hassle ). An infringement on my freedom.

They say eating less slows the aging process . John do you get mistaken for being younger than you are ? Do you notice the people around you aging quicker than yourself. I see some medical research here.

When in a food center I look at what foods people have in their shopping carts ( buggies ) and then I look at their face and body to see what those foods make a person look like. This method of food chosing isn't highly accurate , but it gives one a rough estimate of what effects foods have on a person.

Pizza for breakfast ?

Yeah...it's really good, too! But I'm also one of those people that likes cold meatloaf...and I know lots of folks hate that :-)!!

Pizza = cheese , wheat flour , concentrated tomatoes , herbs and spices. sounds healthy

Cigarettes & coffee = tobbaco and chems, paper , dried up roasted non- nutritional beans with caffine, water , sugar, and a drop of goat milk.

Maybe I should change the morning menu.

I do the coffee with sugar and goat's cream every morning...but NO cigarettes :-)!!!

I've read that eating several "mini" meals a day with your heaviest meal by 2 p.m. is very healthy. People that snack at night usually have more of a tendency to put on weight. That's just what I've read...don't know if it's true!! Last summer Reader's Digest published an article about calcium. Seems that if your diet is high in calcium, you'll lose weight! That's great news for me...I love cheddar cheese and fresh goat's milk!!

( Circadian rhythms ) are daily biological cycles of physiological functions in humans and animals. Circadian rhythms affect our sleeping patterns ,the ability to absorb and retain what we learn, the way we digest foods , and a bunch of other stuff.

It's works like a clock. There's a certain time of the day when the digestive system is more active and able to digest a large meal.I think extra digestive enzymes are sent to the stomach at a certain time of day. There are other times of day when the stomach has less digestive enzymes. This is probably why " people who snack at night usually have more of a tendency to put on weight ".

To bad I learned all this while on mandatory night shift training at work at about 3:00 am in the morning . I don't believe this is the time of day when the physiological functions are in favor of absoring and retaining what we learn .

Thanks for explaining that, Steve. Makes sense to me!! I'll always remember a doctor telling me (many many years ago!!) that you could eat practically anything you wanted before noon and most of that will be used up replenishing what your body needs after sleeping for 8 or 9 hours and not having any nourishment.

Sure wish I could remember more about that Reader's Digest article. I'd like to know how calcium helps you lose weight :-)!! Gotta do some research on that one....

Calcium aids in metabolic functions . The metabolism . At least that's what I remember. I know it has an alkaline affect on the stomach. And people take Tums for indigestion. Tums have calcium. So I'm guessing that calcium helps( aids ) digestion.

The importance of calcium hit me hardest when I lived in the Caribbean and notice people who were 80 to 90 years old having all their original teeth. They ate sweets almost every day .It was the extremely high calcium in the soil. I notice the younger generations had tooth decay just like people in the U.S. . The old people ate traditional foods like root crops as a staple.Usually organically grown . The newer generations wanted hot dogs , tocos, and all that food that has gone through food technology laboratories where they develope the un resistable taste on these new space age foods.

Before I plant vegetable seeds in a garden , I put in the soil loads of dolimite lime stone, much more than is normally recommended. I believe this is a good way to increase calcium absorbtion in the body.

All this info...too late in life. Sure makes me wish I could start all over again :-)!!You can be sure that I wouldn't be supporting my local dentist the next time around!

I eat a bowl of cereal every morning and feel great!!!

Breakfast is probably the most important meal of the day, especially for kids. Kids who don't eat breakfast have trouble learning in school, and also have more behavior problems.

Mom,

You're a very good detective. Don't give up your day job. You owe the people that you falseley suggested might be ruining Greenspun's forum in the Catholic forum an apology.

Think before you speak Mom. Or maybe you should eat your breakfeast before you speak. Don't choke on your sub tonight.
