VCD to CDV can it be done on a PC burner?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have a Pioneer CLD-1850 it can play CDV and I have just read about its differences with VCD. So does anyone know of some FREE software that will allow a PC burner to make VCD to CDV for my laserplayer?

Such software doesn't exist. CDV is a dead format that only laserdisc players understood. Do you realize that even if you could burn a CDV, your laserdisc player would almost certainly not be able to read the CD-R or CD-RW media it was on? Burn an audio CD to CD-R/W and try to play it on your laserdisc player and you'll see how hopeless it is. Besides, CDV format only supported 5 minutes, yes, 5 minutes of video on CD media. CDV supported uncompressed analog video (DVD and VCD use compressed digital video), which is why you get such little recording time. Your best option is to give up on CDV and think about making your own VCDs if you want a format that should still be playable 5-10 years from now.

I'm not saying that the answer is incorrect, but I certainly play copied music CD-R on my LaserVision player if they won't play on my DVD.

I too have played home burned music CD's on my Pioneer CLD-M90 Laserdisc player with no problems.

The reference to trying it with a CDRW is moot since CDRW's use an entirely different method of creating reflective/no-reflective pits that generaly render it incompatable with anything that doesn't specificly support CDRW's.

But as far as regular CDR's go, they much more closely follow proper standards and are playable on anything that plays CD's.

Laser disk players play way more than what yould exspect. My Denon LA- 2000 will play any CD I stick in their (when playing VCD's I just get snow) But in response to the "only 5 minutes of video" he's full of sh*t, a regular cd can hold allmost a full hour of video. If you were to use a double sided CD, you would have enough room to burn your favorite cortoon episodes on it. KNOW we just need to find the software to do it!!!!!

Sorry root is correct about the small time limit of video on a (cdvideo) as he said its an analogue (fmv) format and a 12 inch disc was required to give 1 hour playing time . only the very last and latest laserdisc models with dvd can cope with compressed digital (vcd & dvd) i know of no pc software that can playback (cdvideo), nevermind convert. jr.
