Is this sexual harrasment? .."contract employee"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Law Of The Workplace : One Thread

Hi I have a question I am hoping you can answer. I am self employed as a computer technician. I work for a number of clients going into offices and repairing their computers. Yesterday while at a clients business there was a very sexual conversation taking place about a young lady who was bending over across the street from the business. I asked the owner of the business as well as his employee to stop talking like that about her however they thought it was funny that it was offending me and continued to carry on etc.. This morning I feel disrespected and very uncomfortable..Im not sure why exactly, all i know is the thought of going into that office today makes me sick to my stomach. I feel they all got a good laugh at my expense. I am wondering..being as I am not a regular employee working on his payroll..is the owner of the business still obligated to provide me with a harrasment free work enviorment? Could he be sued? I am NOT going to sue him or anything like that but I was curious about the liabilty on something like this and how something like this would be handled. thank you for taking the time to read my post Kellye
